Pesticides

Information for Citizens

If you are experiencing a pesticide-related illness or injury:

  • Seek medical attention or call the Carolinas Poison Center at 1-800-222-1222;
  • Have the pesticide label, MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), or name of pesticide with you;
  • Remove any pesticides from your skin by removing contaminated clothing and showering; and
  • Report the incident to N.C. Division of Public Health or the Carolinas Poison Center (see below).

To report a pesticide-related illness or injury; you have 3 options

  • Call the Carolinas Poison Center (CPC) at 1-800-222-1222 - option 5

CPC operates 24 hours a day and is set up to collect all the necessary information. They have professionals on staff that can help with your questions about how pesticides affect you and how to treat poisoning.

  • Mail or fax a report to the N.C. Division of Public Health (DPH), Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB), MSC 1912, Raleigh , NC 27699-1912 , Fax: 919-870-4810
