Infertility Prevention Program (IPP)

The North Carolina IPP partners (the Communicable Disease Branch, State Laboratory of Public Health, and Women and Children's Health Section of the N.C. Division of Public Health) work together to ensure that all publicly-funded family planning clinics and STD clinics in the state offer chlamydia/gonorrhea testing to women 24 years and under. Screening is also offered to women who are pregnant, demonstrate symptoms for chlamydia and/or gonorrhea, have a high risk history, are a sex partner referral, or are having an intrauterine device inserted. All laboratory tests are performed by the State Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh. Funding from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention supports laboratory staff and testing supplies for the IPP. Communicable Disease Branch staff provide data analysis, program evaluation and support for this project.
