Asbestos Hazard Management

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) provides reimbursement opportunity for NC Public Schools and Licensed Child Care Facilities when completing asbestos and lead-based paint abatement or remediation activities.

Funding for reimbursement will be available until December 31, 2026, or until the funding is depleted, whichever comes first. Before submitting a packet for reimbursement, click on the following link for more information:

Building demolition or renovation projects may disturb asbestos-containing building materials. Such disturbances can result in the production of asbestos-containing dust which may contaminate a structure.

The North Carolina Asbestos Hazard Management Program (AHMP), administered by Health Hazards Control Unit (HHCU), provides information to the public, to schools, and to business and industry about this health hazard and the proper ways to control or eliminate possible asbestos contamination and exposure.

The AHMP also accredits individuals performing asbestos management activities such as inspection, design, and removal; approves asbestos training courses; issues permits for asbestos removal projects; issues demolition notifications; inspects asbestos removal projects; implements the management of asbestos-containing materials in schools and investigates citizens' complaints.
